About Us

The University of British Columbia Division of Palliative Care (DOPC) is dedicated to ensuring excellence in the care of individuals living with advanced illness through research, community advocacy, and education. Our educational efforts span undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, and public education. Since its inception in 1997, the Division has fostered strong, collaborative relationships across the UBC Faculty of Medicine. We report to both the Department of Medicine and the Department of Family Practice, with many of our faculty holding joint appointments in the Departments of Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, and Pediatrics.

The Division plays a pivotal role in the development and support of Palliative Medicine providers throughout the province. With a primary academic focus on training Palliative Medicine residents, along with residents and medical students from various disciplines, we engage over 550 learners each academic year.
