Nanaimo - What’s the best part about your job?
Working with my amazing group of nurses, fellow physicians and allied health. We have such a collaborative and supportive team that makes coming to work so enjoyable. - Favourite song:
Maggie May by Rod Stewart (it was my late mom’s favorite song and reminds me of childhood) or anything from Fleetwood Mac. - Favourite past-time activity:
Being outdoors with my two dogs, hiking, trail running, mountain biking and rock climbing/mountaineering. - Favourite restaurant in your community: Wild Poppy Bistro in Ladysmith has some amazing gluten-free baked goods that even my non-celiac husband enjoys!
- A book or article you would recommend:
Tough question as I have so many books that I love – the first that come to mind are “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” and “The Next Person You Meet in Heaven”, both by Mitch Albom. Easy reads and an interesting fictional concept of what happens after we die. - What are you creating in the world right now?
Not so much creating per say, but experiencing aspects of my day through my infant son’s eyes is pretty incredible. His marvel and joy at the simplest things is a great reminder not to take life for granted. - Best piece of advice for new physicians:
Learn how to say no: to patients requesting things that you don’t feel are needed, to colleagues asking you to take on more work than you can handle… saying no is important to stay true to your values and maintain an appropriate work-life balance by setting clear boundaries early on.
